Coconut oil earned its right to be called the magic of all oils because its benefits are truly magical! It can be used for removing makeup or as a cooking oil alternative! This product has quickly become a LICKALIX HQ favourite and will remain a favourite for years to come.
We want to send a big thank you to Vita Coco and Lucy Bee for sending us samples to show our readers the many ways this oil can be used. Keep scrolling to see the differences we found between the two brands and the ways you can apply the oil to your own lifestyle at home.
Moisturiser
Coconut oil has been praised by the beauty and skincare world due to its immensely hydrating benefits for the skin. Using Virgin Coconut Oil can reduce the sight of fine lines; when the skin absorbs the oil, the hydration plumps up the skin cells giving our skin a fresh glow. Could this oil be the golden ticket to the fountain of youth? We think so!
Edible Vegan alternative
Did you know coconut oil is edible and vegan? Now you do! Coconut oil is loved by vegans and people looking for a healthier alternative to butter and olive oil due to its cooking base when liquified. When solid, it is perfect on toast with some berries on top for a great breakfast.
Teeth Whitening
It seems the coconut oil never runs out of its beneficial qualities. This product has been proven to whiten teeth and extract bacteria from your mouth with just a 20 minute swish around once a week. To do this, take a teaspoon amount of coconut oil. (If you're trying this for the first time, we would suggest half a teaspoon of coconut oil due to the unfamiliarity of the oil's texture. It will take some getting used to for beginners). Then place the oil in your mouth allowing the coconut oil to liquify and then swish it around like you would with a mouthwash for about 20 minutes. After you spit, brush your teeth to make sure all the coconut oil is out.
Voila! White teeth without all the harsh chemicals from the dentist.
REVIEW: Vita Coco vs. Lucy Bee
We tested out both oils and we found both brands to be equally versatile. We loved Vita Coco's packaging options as it allows us to carry the oil in a small jar (light enough to carry around in a purse), little take-away sachets (perfect for teeth swooshing), and a bigger jar to keep at home for skin care uses and cooking. Lucy Bee's oil is slightly smoother in texture and felt softer to put on the skin. We recommend using a teaspoon to scoop out the oil or storing it at a warmer room temperature as the oil becomes quite difficult to scoop out with fingers. Both were easy to apply and liquified instantly against our face.
We preferred Lucy Bee for cooking and to spread on our toast; whereas Vita Coco was nicer for teeth swooshing! Overall, we enjoyed the product from both brands! You can purchase both oils at your local health store or supermarket - Holland & Barrett, Planet Organic, Ocado, etc.
